Tales From The Bunny Burrows...

Merlyn, the Magic Bunny

Merlyn was adopted from the folks at Orange County Rabbit Rescue.

They are wonderful people who foster abandoned rabbits of all varieties. They care for them, get them neutered, and when you are ready to adopt they sit down and interview you and ask you questions about how you will care for this little creature who will become part of your life. (I've lost their link, sorry!)

Merlyn is seven years old and he is quite a character. He scratches at the door to go in or out; he runs across the bed in the morning when I oversleep; and he comes running everytime he hears a plastic bag rustle ...because he thinks I went grocery shopping just for him and he just knows that I have brought him home some carrots!

Merlyn -- with an Attitude!
Although Merlyn still doesn't like me spending endless hours on the computer, he is adjusting. Sometimes he will lie just around the bookcase where he can keep a close eye on me. Just enough to make me feel guilty... and it enables me to get up to give him a good chin and ear scratch.

Merlyn doesn't like linoleum, (me - the fool that I am) have put down a "runner rug" so he can get to the back door and ask to go out. Sometime in June (2002) he looked at me in the computer room, looked over at the kitchen and decided, hey I'm going this way! I knew it was just a matter of time - now when he doesn't want to go behind me at the computer he goes thru the kitchen.

Local Bunny Adoption

Locally, the Press-Telegram ran an article (written by Tracey Manzer on August 1, 2001; on page A-1) about the Long Beach couple who had taken in abandoned rabbits, and who were subsequently ordered by the City of Long Beach to find new homes for all the bunnies. Their adoption policy is that they meet with you - and place you with the bunny that best suits you. If you are interested in adopting one of these warm, snuggly creatures, please contact the Skinner's at (562) 424-9903.

Over 500 bunnies have been placed as of June 30th, 2002!

Another fantastic sight to visit that has some wonderful information is the House Rabbit Society
